CEO Update: A Message from George Yammouni

Colleagues,

This is my first update for 2026. I hope you’ve had a great start to the new year.

Australian PMI

The Australian PMI fell in March by one point to 50.1, indicating stabilisation of the market, amid concerns of the disruption caused by the Middle East war.

While other indices remain stable, some indicators which are increasing include; export demand, input costs and selling price inflation. Job loss in the industry was also reported to be high this month.

Overall, Manufactures are reporting optimism about manufacturing output increasing steadily over the coming year. However we believe this is predominantly coming from defence related activities.

New Zealand PMI

The Manufacturing PMI for New Zealand was slightly down from 55.0 to 55.1 in January, and this month marks the 3rd month of consistent indicators above 55 since 2021.

Overall, there is a positive sentiment in the NZ market with more orders, enquiries and sales boosting export demand and the sector expanding at a consistent rate.

With improved business conditions and continual positive sentiment in the market, business confidence is overall improving in New Zealand.

Company update

Whilst the first few months of the year have felt slower than usual due to the market taking a cautious approach, we’ve continued to add talent to our WA and QLD as demand continues to grow in those regions.

We’re also looking to expand our portfolio across all regions to offer greater solution choices in a changing marketplace. Specifically, with more entry level and lower cost options, without compromising on quality and reliability.

People

I’m pleased to advise that Ryan Krauss joined us from TRUMPF Germany for a 3-month assignment focused on elevating Smart Factory Solutions for the Australian marketplace. His terrific work has already made an indelible mark on a few of our client’s strategic plans. The push towards smarter operations, greater efficiencies and better material handling and workflows, creates for a more productive sheet metal business. It also drives lower cost, better profits or both. In a short time, Ryan has helped a number of clients develop their blueprint for future “smart factories” with world class automation.

Yonny Lopez has joined our Queensland team as a Service Engineer in the Sheetmetal division, he has previous experience with Amada technology. We’re excited to have Yonny on the team to work alongside Rory, Marlon, Park, Robbie, Jivan and Michael. His addition to the team makes our QLD Sheet Metal team the largest in the local industry and we are very pleased with the high calibre talent assembled.

Ashok B has joined our team in WA as a Service Technician in the CNC division. Ashok has over 16 years of experience in a range of CNC technologies. His arrival makes clear to the WA machining community our commitment to be a major player in exceptional CNC service and support in WA.

I’m also delighted to announce that Mike Clayton has had a promotion to Senior Engineer, he is expert in CNC and additional technologies, and he is a very skilled and resourceful technician working across the Southern region,  based in Melb. Mike is also available to support clients in other locations and is one of 12 very impressive CNC specialists within Headland AU and NZ who collectively have approx.120 Years of CNC service experience.

Our focus on Client Experience

The month of April marks the new start of our revised Client Experience program and considers the feedback we’ve received from many of you. Shorter and less frequent surveys. More face-face interaction. And better communications about planned activities to address previous feedback. Therefore our client experience program will be focused on gathering insights specifically about our Project delivery performance (Installations and relocations). Our service quality performance (Breakdowns and preventative maintenance). Our sales and pre-sales engagement approach, and of course our Spare Parts supply arrangements. All of which are critical to maximising uptime and efficient operations.

I’m pleased to also advise that your feedback will be gathered in the future in a more interactive face-face setting, and less via on-line surveys. We will be making a concerted effort to visit you for these discussions, and keeping you informed of the actions which will follow. We are equally determined to hear from you on whether previous actions are visible and beneficial for your business, as we seek a closed loop feedback system for continuous improvements.

AMW 2026

May is also AMW month. Therefore, I will close by inviting you all to stop by and chat with our team at AMW 2026 in Brisbane. We look forward to seeing you and hope that the remainder of 2026 brings greater certainty and prosperity to all of you, and for Australian Manufacturing overall.

Kind Regards,

George Yammouni
